James Napoleon Lai, Piano
James Napoleon Lai is a distinguished young Indonesian classical pianist who began studying piano at the age of five and is currently pursuing his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under Professor Aaron Shorr as an ABRSM scholar.
He has earned numerous international accolades, including 2nd Prize at the Asia International Piano Competition (2015, China), 2nd Prize at the Osaka International Music Competition (2016, Japan), 1st Prize at the Singapore Performers’ Festival & Chamber Music Competition (2017), and 1st Prize at the Liszt International Festival & Competition (2022, London). Most recently, he was awarded 1st Prize in the Professional Junior Category at the Indonesia International Piano Competition (2024), further establishing his reputation as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation.
As a soloist, James has performed with orchestras such as the Jakarta Concert Orchestra and Budapest Danube Orchestra, and has appeared at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, New York. Alongside his solo career, he is also active in chamber music and has collaborated with internationally renowned musicians.
